Type and configuration of screen
The best screens to use now are Plasma or LCD - the biggest
you can afford. They come standard in 16:9 format now so
can display wide screen presentations at their best.
A important configuration point that most people don't
know about or ignore is the correct settings between the
DVD player and the displaying screen. Many video companies
now produce 16:9 wide screen video and the screens are
now 16:9 too. But in 75% of all sales suites we see an
incorrect setting between the two devices. This causes "letter
boxing" or a distorted picture. Ensure that your DVD
player is set to output 16:9 wide screen footage. The instructions
on how to do this will be in the documents supplied with
your DVD player.
Type of DVD player
The most economical form of high-quality players are the
newer integrated surround sound systems. They have a combination
DVD/CD player and a 5.1 playback system including speakers.
The sound reproduction is good, the price is minimal and
they are flexible in function. These systems are a great
starting point.
The next step up in quality is a professionally supplied
and installed system. It's important that you get these
people to read these notes so as they understand what is
needed. We have seen some amazing, very expensive systems
in sales suites that are rendered almost useless because
the basic points within these notes have been ignored.
My honest opinion on the choice of DVD player and sound
system is that most times people spend way too much money
on a system that they will hardly utilize. Calling in a
professional for the system always leads to an over-the-top
system that not only cost too much but didn't really suit
your purposes. Buying a high quality integrated DVD/Sound
system complete with speakers is economical, works and
sounds almost as good – or to clarify, you wont be
disappointed with the sound. Installing a system is very
easy and requires almost no technical knowledge.
