A flat 2D background costs less to prepare and is best suited to still Computer Generated Images . But when used in animations a 2D image doesn’t show any motion with the camera. If the camera changes the direction it is looking at the view doesn’t change, which is not a desirable result.

The 360-degree panoramic method costs more in location and photography, as each shot is a complete view in all the horizontal directions. This method gives the best result for animations as when the virtual camera turns the view adjusts accordingly.
